Join us in Albany (just 70 minutes from downtown Portland) to tour one of this year’s Oregon Brownfield Award projects, the Albany Ironworks. We will begin with a pizza lunch and a presentation from David Reece, the developer and Kate Porsche, City of Albany’s Urban Renewal Manager about the trials, tribulations, and ultimate success of this project. We will then board a trolley and tour the three buildings that comprise the project.
No charge but advance RSVP requested to robert@nebc.org
Carpool to the meeting. Sign up for a “One Time Trip” at www.CarpoolMatchNW.org and find each other.
The Albany Ironworks project is an exemplary example of how municipalities, developers and government agencies can work together to see an historic property come back to life. Because of the partnership between developer David Reece, the city of Albany, the Central Albany Revitalization Area (CARA) and ODEQ, Albany eliminated a blighted and contaminated site in the core of its historic downtown. Completed in 2008, the Ironworks site now consists of a 12-unit apartment complex (Foundry Lofts Apartments) for urban professionals; 7 LEED certified 1,700 sq.-ft. townhomes (Riverview Townhomes); and, a 15,000 sq.-ft. professional office building (Montgomery Park). Today, all of the buildings are occupied.
